I used to do a “Things I Love Thursday”, except I guess I called it ohJoy…and it wasn’t usually on a thursday.

It was just a list of things I loved about life, when things were really bringing me down. Unfortunetly, it would take me so much time to think up enough things to love about life, that it was a rarely done.

This year, I’m going to try to make a goal of just being able to write down and take photos of more positive things, more often.

Heres a list of things I’ve loved about 2011, thus far.

fish cakes in my ramen

letting my hair grow

waking up next to a cuddly dog

real friends who dress like imaginary friends

having my hair done on an otherwise average day.

fresh challah bread from the bakery to make french toast (with nutella)

bubbles in my coffee

finding interior in inspiration in unlikely places. (my future bathroom will soon look like the locker room from Shutter Island)

food wrapped like presents.

weekly family dinner nights

Seeing this guy who is obviously from the abortion ad on the train, stand around with his girlfriend, uncomfortably.

having the first meal of the new year, with some of my favorite people.

This song because it’s beautiful.

He always sounded like he was drinking champagne on a train and wise to the ways of the world.”

-Tom Waits talking about Teddy Edwards. (Also beautiful.)

other honorable mentions:

  • strangers saying “happy new year” in passing, all over New York
  • snowball fights
  • when friends from different parts of my life, end up becoming friends
  • extra olives in martinis
  • japanese eraser toys
  • Putting Annie Hall on repeat while I’m sick in bed. I’ll pass out and wake up to something that makes me smile, no matter what part of the movie is playing.
  • being reminded that I’m missed
  • Pushing Daisies or any program that involves narrative story telling, for that matter. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, lemony snicket’s a series of unfortunate events, ect…

  • Batali has a Meatless Monday dish at all 14 of his restaurants.
  • Fireworks being set off indoors.
  • Spitting off historical cartoon facts when asked to talk about something I love for a seamless 60 seconds.

wearing socks into dive bars

  • Who You Gonna Call? (especially the guy 0:55 seconds into the video) I believe I was walking down the street with Krysti when we passed them on their way to film this. Oh, if only we had followed them.
  • The minimal design of the Digital Holga camera
  • Watching a random episode of Lost while having someone try to fill me in, as it goes. It was a bit like having a personal Mystery Science Theater 3000.
  • two cute!
  • The Brothers Bloom. All the details about it were so well done. The wardrobe, the sets, the soundtrack, Bang Bang, the ending.
  • “I don’t know about “truths.” A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells, the less you know.”
  • the spine bracelet.
  • “I’m too sad to kill you, today”
  • Band shirt care packages from New York

Taking photos from the car as we drive from San Francisco to LA on the 101 Highway, listening to Television

  • Books on Shirt.
  • Dancing in the middle of my office when I start getting tired, mid day
  • This Gorillaz commercial. Hey Damon, What with the cute outfit choice and  why isn’t Hewlett wearing it?

  • Having someone who can sense when I’m down and surprise me with a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, black coffee, and a collectors edition Takashi Miike film, when I wake up
  • Brits trying to impersonate my American accent.
  • Not having access to my iPhone for several weeks.

creative ways to create cause awareness. Like this one for Campaign Against Land Mines.

“…and I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there’s a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots.”

Hunter S. Thompson

  • Growing a gardenia plant on my balcony
  • Having a very caring friend send me my favorite coffee from New York
  • this photo I took of Randi

I like this song…maybe I don’t. I haven’t been able to tell for the three weeks its been stuck in my head. Here are some musical gems that I am positive that my ears find appealing:

Roy:[humming] We don’t need no education.
Moss:Yes you do, you’ve just used a double negative.

-the IT Crowd

ohJoy! (81-85/365)

February 25, 2010

I’ve been slacking on my 365 photo project, but instead of cheating and backdating different photo entries, I’m just going to roll them all into this entry about things I love, recently.

So put that in your cup of tea and stir it!

Stretching!

Adding eyelashes to everything: (81/365) Models in in magazines, coffee stains on my white desk, ducks I’ve sewn. Everything is more fun with lashes.

Birthday parties for places. Not people. (82/365)

Music! (83/365) I’ve been listening to a lot of Television Personalties and Gogol Bordello while I work and clean. Keeps me awake, makes me smile, and furthers my boner for Eugene Hutz.

Eugene Hutz: The above featured photo truly is like Magic Eye for vaginas. We both wear torn socks on our arms, stem from Eastern Europe, and drink wine from the bottle. I think thats a good base for marriage, no?

Cartoons and comics: I’ve watched nearly every episode of Flapjack and read all of the Winsor McCay in my house since its been raining outside.

The Kitchen: I love my office. Its got stacks of hard drives, good speakers, all of my pens and scissors in neat little tins, and a huge window in place of a wall. I could sit there all day but now that its snowing, its been slightly too chilly to be so close to an 8 ft tall window for more than an hour. So I’ve grabbed the laptop and relocated to the kitchen! I like it here, too. I’m within arms reach to fresh coffee and the cookie jar.

Handmade jewelry: (84/365) Bee stopped by the other day and bedazzled a pair of harmonica earrings she made me for Christmas. It inspired me to make some earrings of my own! So I went through my bone collection and made a simple pair out of buffalo teeth. I love them!

This snow: (85/365) This morning, still too tired to get my layers on, I took the dog out in the anti outfit: A slip, cotton hoodie, and Doc Martins. I was fully aware of the huge chunks of snow falling from the sky and the fact that I was about to catch a cold. But when I got outside and it was actually pretty nice out. I wasn’t freezing and it wasn’t cold enough for the snow to stick. I pranced around the snow and stepped in puddles for a while before coming back up and making some tea. Now, I’m just enjoying the view from the other side.

other things I’m enjoying:

  • Emails of personalized poems from friends.
  • Getting Netflix and handwritten letters in the mail, on the same day.
  • The thought of going to Los Angeles for a visit, soon.
  • My tumblr. WordPress, take note on layouts for idiots.
  • Stocking up for some gluten free baking supplies.
  • Hipster Puppies!
  • One of my favorite Floridan ladies coming up to visit, next week.
  • Cigarettes in old tin cases.
  • “Life is like a sewing machine bobbin. You never know what you’ll get tangled up in”
  • Getting a hilarious email that ends with “so yeah. I hope you enjoyed your trip to jail”
  • This project that I will be taking on next week! (but instead of the Warhol, I’m feeling more inspired by the above photo)
  • doing fun childlike things. Like this girl gets to do this entire video!
  • Sparking water with artificial cherry
  • Scent of a Woman and other Al Pacino movies
  • clicking on a link called “see Mike Pattons penis” and expecting to not see Mike Pattons penis.
  • wearing bright colors with my black hair
  • ginger dipped in dark chocolate
  • Helping with causes for friends
  • being called “tough guy”
  • swimming laps 4 times a week
  • magnolia trees
  • grass and dirt. I can’t wait for it to get here!

A 24 Year Olds List of 25

August 13, 2009

Photo booth with friends at BBQ Bar in Orlando, FL July 2009

It’s been so long since I’ve written out a list of things that I am loving about life. This is probably because their are very few things that I have found to not love about it, in the past few months. I’ve taken a dive into jobs that have been allowing me to travel for my summer. As long as I’m not stagnant and full of sugar, I’m pleased.

ohPhillipSo I’m kiiiiind of like Phillip the Hyper Hypo, nowadays.

  • Bacon and chocolate from a chocolate fountain, for brunch in Santa Monica
  • The art work of Tuscan tattoo artist Allyson Bannett
  • Listening to Charlie Parker by the pool as a result of a debate of where the clip used at the beginning of the Refused song Deadly Rhythm came from. (its from 52nd Street Theme)
  • A friend saved our text conversations that started at a very difficult time in my life, and is deleting them now that it is over. About 1600 text messages in a 6 month period.
  • Being able to be around my friends in far places for their first shows, birthdays, new family additions, and other memorable life events.

wooSelf Portrait at Terminal 5 at 4:30AM

  • Briefly getting to see and shoot the girlfriend along with her collection of shoes, then heading straight to the airport.
  • Sitting at the new Terminal 5, photoshopping and watching the Dick Van Dyke Show as planes roll by. (I say new Terminal 5, because the original Eero Saarinen design was demolished in order to create a strip that allowed more planes behind the still erect and uniquely abandoned TWA check in building.)

Jenn, wheat-grass, and an infectious smile. Taken on my iPhone

  • Introducing a friend to the joys of healthy drinks
  • Relating to Paul Rudds friendship making woes in I Love You, Man.
  • My friend Beas new blog. Its such a positive little journal and filled with photos and writings of her little family, her home, and food!
  • Laughing till I cry.

Cupcakes!Photo and cupcakes by Chloe Rice

  • Making cupcakes that look like ice cream, for a 2 year olds birthday.
  • Singing Happy Birthday to a two year old child. Because at that age a kid doesn’t really understand why you get a ton of sugar and people who want to sing to you while you eat, and the reaction is amazing.
  • Tom Palumbos photographs of his wife
  • Slightly gawdy and outdated luxurious interiors
  • The illustrations of miss tal
  • Red Fang..

sweet ridePhoto from Danny Fases phone

  • Learning how to ride a Segway
  • Kusmi teas! The Prince Vladimir and Troika blends are my favorite.
  • The website Sci-Fi-O-Rama. The fake future imagery is endless!
  • Taking something that you can only get in your town with you, on a trip. For me, its Zabaars coffee.
  • Learning how to do something that I’ve previously given up on. Ryan patiently showed how to play Wii Tennis and I fucking love it, now!

name twinChloe on Chloe By Chloe

  • Cleaning the hate slate. Making amends to relationships that I’ve previously taken part in destroying, even if I don’t speak to or see the people regularly.
  • Quitting my job on good terms.
  • Drinking homemade moonshine in the most manly garage I’ve ever seen.
